Circular Economy Hotspot 2027

To be continued….

EUROPEAN Circular Economy Hotspots

A successful globetrotting event since 2016

The European Circular Economy Hotspot is an annual event, which has grown from a gathering first held in the Netherlands in 2016.

The concept of Circular Economy Hotspot traveled from Netherlands, where it first took place in 2016 to Luxembourg, Scotland, Belgium, Catalonia, North Rhine Westphalia, Dublin and Wales, while global Hotspots took place in three other continents: North America (Canada), South America (Brazil) and Africa (South Africa).

This year Hotspot host in Europe is Slovenia, Africa (Ethiopia) and North – Central America (Mexico), with an election for South America planned for later this year.

The event aims to shine a spotlight on innovative circular economy practices. Its international and diverse outlook promotes the exchange of ideas and experiences between policymakers, entrepreneurs, researchers and captains of industry from the host country and beyond. Each host puts together a programme that shows how their country or region is contributing to the transition towards a circular economy.

Circular Economy Hotspot in 2026

Next European Circular Economy Hotspot event will take place in October, 2026 in Budapest, Hungary.

Circular Economy Hotspot in 2027

At the Circular Economy Hotspot Slovenia 2025 conference, organised this year in Ljubljana, where 430 participants gathered and shared the latest circular insights, Brno (Czech Republic) has been selected as the host for the highly anticipated Circular Economy Hotspot 2027. As a result, the Czech Republic will now join the ranks of distinguished European countries and regions such as the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Scotland, Belgium, Catalonia, Nord Rhine Westphalia, Dublin, Wales and Slovenia putting their city on the global circular stage.

The jury, consisting of five (previous) CE Hotspot event organisers, came together to decide on the location of the CE Hotspot event in 2027. The jury consisted of Holland Circular Hotspot (2016), Ministry for Environment, Climate and Energy Slovenia (2025), Government of Catalonia (2020/21), the City of Bottrop (North Rhine Westphalia Circular Hotspot 2022) and next year’s host BCSD Hungary (2026).

The jury liked the sustainable track record of the organisers, their strong access to business, finance and smart technologies. Brno is the ideal host for the next Circular Hotspot because it combines a strong innovation ecosystem within Central Europe’s industrial heartland, making it a gateway for scaling circular solutions across the region.
